What is Pilates?

Pilates is form of exercise designed to improve health and well-being, which has gained popularity over the years.


The focus of Pilates is on the strengthening of the core muscles (the deep muscles in your stomach, spine and pelvic floor which provide stability and protect your spine against injury). It aims to promote global strength, flexibility and to facilitate good posture.


There are many benefits of Pilates - here are a few:

- Increases flexibility

- Enhances posture and quality of movement

- Increases concentration

- Promotes relaxation and has a positive effect on mental health


Pilates can be very beneficial for those who want to maintain or improve their fitness. It can be an excellent way of supplementing your training as an athlete, and play a role in the prevention of injury. Pilates can also play a role in establishing good posture and preventing injuries from occurring in children and adolescents as they grow and develop. When Pilates is taught by a health professional, exercises can be appropriately modified and tailor-made to facilitate in the rehabilitation of various injuries and conditions for people of all ages.
